Privacy policy
This policy explains how Hot Chilli Software, operated by Eric in Australia, handles personal information through this website and the software projects it publishes. It is written with regard to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply. I collect only the information reasonably needed to provide, improve and support my websites and apps. I do not sell personal information. You can contact me to ask about, access or correct your information, or to make a privacy complaint.
Short version
1. Who this policy covers
This policy covers hotchillisoftware.com and Hot Chilli Software projects, including Le Smart Chef and Libri Scout. A project may provide an additional privacy notice where its data practices differ. That notice should be read together with this policy.
2. Information I may collect
Depending on how you use the website or a project, I may collect contact details you provide; account and profile information; content you choose to add to an app; support messages and feedback; transaction or subscription records supplied by a payment platform; and technical information such as device type, app version, IP address, diagnostics and security logs. I do not intentionally collect sensitive information unless it is necessary, lawful and made clear at the point of collection.
3. How information is collected
Information may be collected directly from you when you create an account, use a feature, contact me or request support. Limited technical information may be collected automatically by the website, app, hosting provider or diagnostics service. Information may also be received from service providers when needed to operate a feature.
4. Why information is used
I may use personal information to provide and maintain services; authenticate accounts; save and synchronise user content; process purchases or subscriptions; respond to support requests; protect users and services from misuse; diagnose problems; improve accessibility and performance; comply with legal obligations; and send service-related messages. Marketing messages will only be sent where permitted, and you can opt out.
5. Sharing and service providers
I may disclose information to trusted providers that help with hosting, storage, email, analytics, diagnostics, payments and customer support; to professional advisers; or where required or authorised by law. Providers are given only the information reasonably needed for their role. I do not sell personal information.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some technology providers may process or store information outside Australia, including in the United States and other locations where they operate. The countries involved depend on the project and provider. Current project-specific notices should identify relevant providers or locations where practicable. I take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances when using overseas providers.
7. Storage, security and retention
I use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No online service is completely secure. Information is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for its purpose or to meet legal requirements, then deleted or de-identified where appropriate.
8. Access and correction
You may ask for access to personal information I hold about you or request a correction by emailing eric@hotchillisoftware.com. I may need to verify your identity. If access or correction cannot be provided, I will explain why where required by law.
9. Privacy complaints
Email eric@hotchillisoftware.com with the subject “Privacy complaint” and include enough detail for me to investigate. I will acknowledge and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
10. Children
The intended age of each project is described in its store listing or project notice. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a way that is inconsistent with the project’s stated audience or applicable requirements. A parent or guardian may contact me about a child’s information.
11. Cookies and similar technologies
This website or a project may use essential local storage, cookies or similar technologies for security, preferences and core functionality. Any non-essential analytics or tracking should be described at the point it is introduced and, where required, offered with an appropriate choice.
12. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when products, providers or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be revised, and material changes may also be communicated within the relevant website or app.
